“Yea, but I didn’t. And neither did you, which is what counts.“ (Yes, of course! You’re playing Lavi?)
Lavi’s eye widened a bit at the revelation, his smile faltering for the barest of seconds. It was funny, in a way. Allen called him out on being stupid for attacking Tyki when he’d done the same to the Earl.
From where his earlier smile fell, a new one slowly appeared. Tender and soft, it contained all the qualities he should’ve been able to choke down and pretend weren’t real.
“But ya still saved all of us, ‘Sprout,” Lavi said because it was nothing but the truth. Allen tried to save everyone, but perhaps that’s what scared him most. That kind heart of his put him into constant danger.
“Just don’t go jumpin’ in front of bullets or attackin’ the Earl anymore. Keep that up and my hair’s gonna go white, too!”
Allen’s smile fell.
“I… I cant promise that, Lavi.” he said quietly. “I can promise I will try to not be reckless… but if it meant saving your life, or a friends life, I cant promise I wont do anything necessary. Even taking a fatal attack myself.” He felt awful saying so to Lavi, but he would feel worse if he broke a promise to him.
“I dont want to make a promise that I might not keep.”
