Allen sighed, slouching on the couch as he watched Komui search through stacks of papers, looking for the mission documents he had prepared for Allen and Lavi. Normally, Allen didn’t mind Komui’s disregard for filing, but he also normally did not have to wait over a half an hour for Komui to find the papers he was looking for.

“Komui, can’t I go to the dining hall and eat while you look? You can just call me back.” Allen whined. He was hungry! “Lavi isn’t even here yet anyways.”

“Hold on, I’ll find it in just one minute…” Komui muttered, half buried underneath a pile of papers as he searched through them.

“You’ve been saying that this whole time.” Allen muttered. Where was Reever when you needed him? He would have found the documents for Komui within five minutes, probably. He was hungry! And thirsty too…

Allen spotted a bottle of water on one of the side tables. Or at least, it looked like water. Allen got up to look at the bottle, and opened it to sniff cautiously. It smelled fine… but with Komui, who knew?

“Hey, Komui, can I drink this water?” he called, waving the bottle in Komui’s direction.

“Yea, sure, that’s fine.” Komui said in a distracted tone, barely glancing in Allen’s general direction as he searched.

Allen sat back down on the couch, and sipped the liquid just to make sure. It seemed to be safe, so Allen continued to sip it as he waited for Komui to dig out his mission papers. He was still hungry and bored, but at least he wasn’t thirsty anymore. Hopefully Lavi would show up soon to fix his boredom as well.

Allen was completely off-guard. He yelped and jumped away from Lavi, rubbing his stinging backside.

“Ow! Lavi, what the bloody hell?”

veridiansoulwrites:

Lavi waited patiently for the answer, knowing that it was something difficult to answer right out of the blue like that. He didn’t expect to have an answer right away, or even one at all.

“Why would you feel sad or worried?” He asked, genuinely curious. “You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.”

Explaining why he was worried was easy. “I’m worried you’ll get hurt… or killed. Or that one day you’ll leave and just never come back.” He felt depressed even thinking about what there was to be worried about, their occupation was not at all safe, and Lavi had the added burden of being a Bookman in training.

“Im sad because…” He wasn’t sure how to put it in words, or even what exactly it was. When he looked at Lavi, something about him made his heart hurt.

“…because I…” It wasn’t because he was worried, something else was causing the pain. It was more like… loneliness? And longing…?

“I want to…” A longing to be closer? A longing to mean something to the other? He had never been able to forget about what Lavi had said that day in the Ark, when he was controlled by his Bookman personality. How he had no friends, they were all just ink on paper to him. While Allen understood that it wasn’t Lavi who had said that, it was still a part of Lavi. And Allen wanted to be more than ink on paper to him…

“I want to be…” But he wanted to mean more to Lavi than just a friend. What he wanted… he didn’t know what he was feeling. It reminded him of how he felt when he thought of Mana, but it was also so different. He loved Mana like a father, but Lavi… oh… oh no.

Allen blushed as he realized what it was he had been feeling. He turned away from Lavi, as if his hands clenched in his lap were suddenly interesting.

I cant… let him know. He realized why he had been feeling so sad when he looked at Lavi. Because he wanted something that he knew he could never have. Not only was Lavi obviously interested in busty women, he was a Bookman, and Allen was pretty sure Bookman did not do relationships. Except he couldn’t tell Lavi that… Lavi was still waiting for an answer. Allen tried to think of something to say, something that would seem believable.

“I want to be more than ink on paper to you.” he whispered. That would work, he figured. It was even true.

“I figured as much.” Lavi laughed and ran a hand through his hair before meeting Allen’s eyes, suddenly serious. “What do you think of when you look at me? If you’re going to answer be completely honest with me.”

Allen was surprised, he hadn’t expected a question like that. He thought about it for a few moments, staring at Lavi thoughtfully as he tried to come up with a good answer.

“I’m not sure how to put it in words…” he said softly. “There isnt really one thought that always goes through my head when I see you. Its mostly feelings, and its kind of hard to explain them. I feel happy, and safe, and relieved and worried… and sad… its a weird mix of stuff like that.“

“Ow! Lavi, what the bloody hell?”

“Hey Allen, can I ask you a serious question?” He said, finally breaking the silence and looking at the younger boy. The lack of speech was starting to get to him and he had a question.

“Yea, sure you can ask.” Allen said with a smile. “I cant guarantee Ill answer though.” He wouldn’t put it past Lavi to ask something embarrassing, or personal. Especially after how he was greeted earlier.

“Ow! Lavi, what the bloody hell?”

“You could say that.” Truthfully his day was rather boring until he had seen Allen and slapped his ass. He didn’t want to tell the truth though in case the other would leave.

Allen waited a few moments, but realized Lavi was not planning on elaborating. He sat quietly, idly swinging his legs from the edge of the table, waiting for Lavi to speak. He didn’t know if Lavi wanted something, or just wanted company, but either way Lavi never seemed capable of letting a quiet moment last, so he waited.

“Ow! Lavi, what the bloody hell?”

The redhead smiled and hauled Allen up to join him on the table. “Is something wrong Allen?”

Allen shook his head, deciding to think about what happened later. “Nothings wrong, Lavi. You seem really cheerful today, something happen?”

“You heard me babe. It’s cute and I just couldn’t help myself. Hope you don’t mind.” The redhead smirked and sat atop a table, swinging his legs a bit. Inside he was laughing maniacally at Allen’s face. The other was just too precious sometimes.

Allen was unable to do more than stare at Lavi, unable to decide if he was joking or serious.

Lavi snickered and shook his hand a bit, feeling the aftermath. “I always said I’d tap that, so I did.” He awkwardly winked his one good eye but he was sure Allen got the message.

Allen had not expected that response. At all. His jaw dropped and he stood still for a moment, trying to process exactly what Lavi was implying.

“W-what?” he asked, his face heating up when he realized he had not somehow misheard. And that Lavi was winking at him.
