WA-PISH! ((Lavi at your service ;) ))

Allen was completely off-guard. He yelped and jumped away from Lavi, rubbing his stinging backside.

“Ow! Lavi, what the bloody hell?”

“You just need to relax and let things happen Allen. Thinking too hard about stuff doesn’t help solve it.” It didn’t take long for the white haired male to take Lavi’s hand, making him grin a bit. Instead of getting up like normal the redhead just sat there, kicking his feet in the air like he often did when comfortable. He decided that he was going to wait for Allen to say something rather than explain what he was doing. It was a test to see what the younger male would say.

Allen was confused when Lavi made no movement to get up, or do anything else besides hold his hand. Though, he realized he didn’t really mind. Even though Lavi seemed casual about holding his hand, Allen felt happy inside for some reason, and he grinned back at Lavi.

veridiansoulwrites:

“Allen, if you keep tapping your foot like that I’m going to rip it off. You’re fine, just calm down already.” Lavi said with a sigh from where he was laying on a bench upside down, reading a book that Bookman had sent with him. They had been on the train for approximately 15 minutes and the redhead hadn’t gotten passed five pages due to Allen’s incessant tapping. “If you keep thinking about it you’ll give yourself symptoms.”

Allen hadn’t even noticed his foot tapping, and with a quiet apology he stopped.

“I know… its just hard to not worry after all the weird things we’ve seen Komui’s potions do…” Allen said. “And there isn’t really anything else to distract me from thinking about it.” He had already read through the mission documents, and he hadn’t had the foresight to pack a book, thinking Lavi would chat the whole time as he usually did when Bookman wasn’t around to supervise.

“I think I’m gonna go grab a snack from the dining car, I’m hungry.” He said, standing up and heading for the door of the compartment.

“Ow! Lavi, what the bloody hell?”

“You’re thinking way too much about this Allen.” Lavi laughed and slid a hand over towards his white haired companion, palm facing up in an inviting manor. He had seen the small blush and was just going on a hunch to see if he was right. Whether Allen took his hand or declined would answer the question he asked himself.

Allen laughed with Lavi. “Yea, I probably am.” He really was, he just needed to act the same as he used to, right?

Lavi held out his hand, and Allen stared for a moment, not sure what he intended. He had done the same thing when he pulled Allen up onto the table to join him, maybe he wanted Allen to go somewhere with him? But even though he wasn’t sure what Lavi intended, Allen reached out and took his hand anyways.

Allen was completely off-guard. He yelped and jumped away from Lavi, rubbing his stinging backside.

“Ow! Lavi, what the bloody hell?”

“If it’s hard to put words to feelings than try it in some other way. I find that hand gestures, writing, and actions work fabulously for things such as that.” He said with a small laugh, trying to keep the light hearted atmosphere present. It often worked in his favor when he was trying to keep the white haired male comfortable.

Allen did his best to resist thinking too hard about other ways to show his feelings, and hoped he wasn’t blushing.

“Hmmm…” he tried to think of some way to respond that wouldn’t give away what he was really feeling. From what he already said, maybe he could play it off as just wanting to be closer friends?

veridiansoulwrites:

“I’m pretty certain you will be absolutely fine Allen. Let’s just go and I solemnly swear that I will watch you carefully for any differences. Besides, I know how to treat most types of chemical poisoning so I’ve got this.” He said nonchalantly, ushering the white haired male out the door before he could get any more worried.

Once out in the hallway he swung an arm over Allen’s shoulder comfortably. “We’ll be out of here soon.”

Allen let Lavi lead him away, trying to ignore the bad feeling he still had.

Allen prepared for the mission quickly, and soon the two of them were on a train, headed towards their mission; a small town where all the people mysteriously vanished overnight. Komui had said it was probably Akuma, but the normal traces they left behind were absent, so they were being sent to investigate if Innocence could be involved.

Allen leaned against the window, watching the scenery pass by. He was still nervous about drinking the unknown liquid in Komui’s office. He thought he felt a bit odd, but it was so slight he wondered if he was just imagining it.

veridiansoulwrites:

“Oh thank God. I’m still sorry about that though, Bookman belted me to the chair so I couldn’t leave until I finished. It took forever for me to get him to release me.” He mumbled, letting out a loud sigh as he flopped onto the couch next to Allen. Automatically he swung an arm over the white haired male’s shoulder and smiled, half paying attention to Komui while the other half was focused on playing with Allen’s hair.

When Komui suddenly freaked out about the ‘water’ Lavi’s eyes widened. He had run into a few of the hidden objects in Komui’s office. “Let me see that…” The redhead plucked the bottle from Allen’s hands, sniffed it, and then gave it back. “Doesn’t smell like anything, but I’ll keep an eye on you while we’re gone.”

Allen nodded, still looking worried as he passed the empty bottle to Komui and accepted the mission documents.

“Don’t worry, Allen, you are probably fine. Most of the potions we have here take effect very quickly, so its likely that it was just water that someone left around.” Komui said, smiling as he started ushering the pair to the door. “I can analyze whats left and double check, but Its likely you are fine!”

Allen wondered if he didn’t sound a little too optimistic, but he did have to agree. His experience with the Science Departments experiments showed that they usually had immediate effect.

“Will you know by the time we report in?” Allen asked.

“Well I will at least be able to tell you if it was water or not by then.” Komui said, his wide grin not at all reassuring. “Now off you go!”

veridiansoulwrites:

“Panda I need go to Komui’s to get briefed with Allen! I’ve been trying to leave for the past hour. Can I just go already?” Lavi let out a loud sigh and leaned his head back on the chair he was sitting in. He had tried to escape forever ago but his mentor had gotten the jump on him and managed to belt him to the chair, leaving the redhead stuck until he could convince the other to let him go.

“Did you finish your studies brat?” He asked, not paying attention as he continued to scan the pages of the book in his hands.

“Yes! I’ve been done!” He groaned, trying to reach his hands back again to pull the belt free. Unfortunately, Bookman had tied it up in a way Lavi would never get it off by himself.

After about five minutes Bookman finally put his book down and scanned Lavi’s work, finding it acceptable. He released the younger boy and Lavi took off running through the doors and out into the hall.

“I’m here!” Lavi wheezed as he flung open the doors to Komui’s office, slightly out of breath.

Allen had just about finished drinking the water, and was considering sneaking away for a snack while Komui was distracted, when Lavi appeared.

“You haven’t missed much, he cant find the documents…” Allen said as Lavi approached. A few moments later, though, Komui let out a shout of triumph and held a folder above his head.

“Found them! Ok so…” he launched into the mission details. It was an easy enough mission. Just investigating an area with rumored Akuma activity. Allen thought he could probably handle it on his own, but he was glad that he would have company along the way. He yawned as Komui droned on, and drank the rest of the water.

Komui suddenly stopped, staring at the bottle in Allen’s hand.

“Allen… where did you get that?” he asked quietly, and Allen’s eyes widened as he looked between Komui and the bottle.

“It was on that table… You said I could drink it. I asked!” he said in a panicked voice. “I thought it was water. You said I could drink it! What was it?

Komui raised his hands in a gesture to try to calm Allen down.

“I’m not exactly sure if it was anything at all. There are only a few things I had kept lying around here… If it tasted like water, it could have easily been water. Or at least it probably was very diluted if you couldn’t taste anything. There haven’t been any effects yet, right? I’m sure it should be okay for you to go ahead on this mission, and Ill look into it and figure out if it is something to be worried about.”

Allen calmed down slightly, and silently vowed to never eat or drink anything found in Komui’s general vicinity again. But it was true that he felt no different than before, so maybe Komui really was just being cautious about it, and nothing would happen.

“Ow! Lavi, what the bloody hell?”

“You don’t seem convinced Allen, and to be honest neither am I. Care to tell me what’s really got you feeling like that?” He smiled calmly, hoping the other would feel comfortable with his silent encouragement. “I know you better than to believe those trained expressions that I can mirror.”

He really should have known Lavi would notice that he was hiding something. Allen’s masks were good enough to fool most people, but they weren’t perfect. Lavi, with his photographic memory, probably had been able to spot the small differences. A part of him was happy that Lavi could tell, but he was also scared. It would be hard to hide anything from Lavi… And Allen didn’t think it would end well if Lavi learned of his feelings. At best, he would pretend nothing changed, but at worse he might distance himself form Allen…

Even if Lavi could tell when his expressions were fake, as long as fake could hide what he really felt, it would be good enough.

“Well… this is all rather sudden. And its hard to put words to feelings. I rarely have to think about why I felt certain ways.” he said in a lighthearted tone, keeping a grin on his face. It was all still true, and he hoped Lavi would just accept it. But he knew Lavi was nothing if not curious, a part of his job was to pry information from people, after all…

“In this line of work anyone could get hurt Allen. Life isn’t fulfilling if you worry about things like that you know? You need to stop thinking about that.” He mumbled, looking over to stare at the white haired boy. Lavi saw a piece of hair out of place and leaned over to brush the hair behind his ear. He smiled briefly and brought his hand back to give Allen space again.

The more his friend spoke the more his own smile fell. Allen looked rather confused himself but it just got worse from there. “Want what?” Lavi asked with a small eagerness in his voice as he put a hand to Allen’s shoulder when he turned away. There was something more to this and he could clearly see it. The answer he received didn’t line up.

“But you are more to me than ink on paper…” He mumbled, dropping his hand a little to grip Allen’s arm.

Allen carefully controlled his expression and smiled at Lavi.

“Yea, I know… you did burn yourself up quite a bit to save us, then.” he said. “I guess its just a feeling that lingered from what happened.”

Allen tried to act as if Lavi’s touch wasn’t affecting him as it drifted from his hair, to his shoulder, and down his arm. Lavi casually touched him all the time, and for some reason only now was Allen really noticing it.
