( kitty-bandit I made the thing lol)

Allen seriously just wanted to cry. Here he was, stranded in another country, wet, and bloody cold. And he had no idea what to do about any of it.

Cross had abandoned him for long stretches of time before. That was normal. He also liked to move around a lot, dragging Allen along with him. Normally, Allen could manage the bills with a part time job and a bit of poker on the side.
But Cross had decided to move to bloody America this time. Allen suspected he got in a bit too much trouble with someone he owed money. But, less than a week after securing a run-down apartment, Cross had vanished again. He had not given Allen anywhere near enough time to get a visa to work, or any identification beyond his passport. He had managed to last a few months on savings and under-the-counter odd jobs, but it was not anywhere near enough, as Americans didn’t seem to gamble in normal bars and clubs.

And, of course, a week after he had gotten his eviction notice his small apartment had been broken into, and his bag with his passport, and all of his remaining money, was taken.

So Allen was royally screwed. Without ID, he could not even get into a homeless shelter, let alone get a job.

And on top of everything else, it had to be raining. Of course, it was late November, but not quite cold enough for snow. Snow would have been preferable, in Allen’s opinion. Snow was drier, he could just brush it off. But rain soaked through his clothes, making the night seem much colder.

He shivered and pulled his knees to his chest, wishing bus shelter he had taken claimed for the night could shield him from the wind and rain better. A streetlight above him flickered every so often, and Allen watched his breath create white puffs in the night air.

Allen fought exhaustion for a few hours, but he started to wonder why he bothered. He couldn’t think of any way out of his situation, and even if by some miracle Cross returned, he would have trouble even finding Allen. All he had left were the soaked clothes he was wearing, clothes which were not designed with warmth in mind. Even his thin coat was mostly for fashion, rather than function. Allen knew that realistically, he had a low chance of surviving the winter, even without considering how he was going to eat.

Allen eventually let his eyes close, finding it hard to continue to worry, or even care, what might happen if he fell asleep. Maybe it would be better if he just gave into it, rather than dragging it out…

They made it off the train with time to spare and headed on the road leading to the Order. The walk back wasn’t terribly long, but the quiet that stretched between Lavi and Allen was starting to get to the redhead. He didn’t know what to say as they traveled along the dirt road. The only thing he wanted to talk about was what had just occurred in the train compartment, but discussing the intricacies of their new romantic entanglement wasn’t something Lavi wanted to chat about on the tail end of their trip. No, they needed to find somewhere quiet and discuss what was going to happen next at length.

Lavi glanced at Allen whenever he thought the other Exorcist wasn’t looking. He wasn’t sure what would happen now. Everything was so complicated, especially with his title as a future bookman. This wasn’t something he should be messing with in the first place. Emotions had no place in a Bookman’s life. But, there was no taking it back now. He would just have to deal with everything as it happened.

Allen felt that the silence as they walked was a bit awkward, but the idea of forcing even a normal conversation would make it worse. He glanced at Lavi a few times, and once even thought he caught Lavi’s eyes darting away from him, until they reached the Order.

“So… Want to report to Komui first and get that out of the way?” Allen asked, hoping no one else noticed the odd tension around the two. Or if they did, they would assume that they just had a petty fight during their mission.

Lavi kissed Allen again, just a peck on the lips this time around. “Ok. Good,” he said, half-heartedly letting go of Allen. They needed to disembark, and as much as Lavi wanted to stay right there with Allen, they both had to get moving. They were expected back at the Order shortly.

Allen waited for Lavi to collect his belongings before opening the door again. He felt much more hopeful, Lavi wouldn’t have kissed him like that if he was planning on telling Allen that what happened here didn’t mean anything, right?

So, he just had to wait until they reported to Komui, then they should be able to talk.

Lavi took his time, letting the kiss linger for as long as he could draw it out. But he felt the train slow to a stop and knew they had to gather their belongings and disembark before the train left the station once more. Though, the thought of being confined with Allen again for a long period of time did sound appealing.

Pulling away, Lavi stared down at the younger Exorcist. His heart was beating so hard in his chest that he worried it might burst right through his ribcage and onto the floor. “Allen, I want—” He cut himself off from finishing the sentence, even though the words burned on his tongue—desperate to get out. I want you. He thought those three words over and over again. He wanted Allen so bad, wanted this to be more than just a one-time thing. Lavi wasn’t allowed to have a heart. He could never forget that. But maybe if… maybe if he gave his heart to Allen, the other boy could keep it safe for him.

“We should talk when we get back,” Lavi finally said, still pressing himself close to Allen. His hands lingered on Allen’s hips and his eye was still focused on the younger boy.

Allen leaned heavily against the compartment door as Lavi pulled away. He opened his eyes to meet Lavi’s, his body very aware of Lavi leaning into him, and hands holding his waist. Allen stayed quiet as Lavi struggled for words, and Allens hope grew stronger. Maybe Lavi did want to be with him…

“Yea, we should.” Allen agreed, a small, but real smile on his lips.

Allen was so quick to gather his things, and the train was only just pulling into the station. It felt rushed. Lavi wanted more time. As soon as they left this train, they’d be back at the Order and life was supposed to resume per the usual – more fighting in this seemingly endless war.

“Wait,” Lavi said, before he could think to keep his mouth shut. He was digging this pit in his heart deeper with each moment around Allen, but at this point, he doubted he could stop. Standing up and forgetting his luggage, he grabbed the door and closed it again. This was their space – it was safe, as if being in the small train compartment kept the war away from them for a brief precious moment.

Lavi stared at Allen, hand still on the door. Unable to articulate the swirl of forbidden feelings raging in his heart, he leaned down and kissed Allen again. It was long, gentle. He wanted the younger Exorcist to feel what he felt, even if just for a second. There was no other way to explain it. For all the books he had read and all the knowledge he possessed, Lavi was useless when it came to his own heart.

Allen froze when he heard Lavi speak from behind him. As Lavi pushed the door shut again, Allen stood still, not sure if he should be feeling hope or dread.  Was Lavi going to tell him to pretend this didn’t happen? Or was he… Lavi gave him little time to think, and next thing Allen knew, Lavi was kissing him.

Allen turned to face him properly, and clutched the front of Lavi’s jacket, pulling him closer as he returned the kiss. This felt much different than the kisses they had shared before, more slow and gentle, and it made Allen’s heart ache. Was Lavi trying to tell him something? To show that he did care? Allen wasn’t sure, but for now he would be content with Lavi kissing him against the compartment door.

When Allen started fiddling with his bags, Lavi figured it was safe to look again. He knew it was ridiculous to be so shy after what they’d just done, but he couldn’t help it. He sat back on the train bench, the hard cushions still warm from their combined body heat. His eye glanced out the window, taking in their surroundings. It wouldn’t be long now before they reached their stop, then it was just a short walk back to the Black Order.

It was too quiet in the train car. Lavi couldn’t think of anything to say, instead just watching Allen as he gathered his bags. The redhead’s fingers itched to touch Allen, but instead, he just shoved his hands in his pockets. They needed to talk about this – what had just happened between them – but Lavi was barely sure what the whole thing meant. He wasn’t able to articulate his feelings yet. For the moment, he’d have to deal with the silence, and ruminate over what he needed to do –

Especially now that he was certain he had feelings for Allen Walker.

Allen finished gathering his belongings together fairly quickly, and didn’t have any other ideas on how to look busy. He sat down on the opposite bench, the same way they had been sitting before while playing their game, and pretended to watch the scenery fly by as the train approached their stop.

He peeked again at Lavi, and was surprised to find Lavi watching him back. There was something about the way that Lavi was looking at him… Allen wanted to turn away from that gaze, wanted to break the awkward silence. But something in the way Lavi was looking at him made him blush, but he also felt so… safe.

Allen hastily redressed himself, wrinkling his nose when he realized he was going to smell weird when he got back to the Order. Hopefully no one would notice, it wasn’t at all unusual for Exorcists to return badly in need of a bath…

The landscape outside looked familiar, and he could see the tall tower of the Order in the distance, indicating they were nearly to their stop. He busied himself with making sure his belongings were all in order, sneaking peeks at Lavi from under his bangs every so often.

Allen melted into the kiss, and by the time Lavi pulled away, he felt much calmer. Lavi wouldn’t kiss me like that if this meant nothing, right? As Lavi brushed away his tears, not seeming to have any aversion to touching his scar, Allen was able to return Lavi’s smile.

Allen noted that Lavi’s voice sounded odd, but he didn’t try to pry into why; he figured Lavi probably had his own feelings to work out, just as Allen did.

“Oh no, when is our stop?” Allen asked, starting to rise but pausing as he noticed liquid on his stomach begin to drip to the floor.

“Uh…” he blushed as he tried to think of how to deal with getting cleaned up and dressed in time for their stop. He didn’t want to have to put his clothes on and get this all over them.
