Lavi gave up on shouting for help quicker than he normally would, too frustrated to bother any longer. When Allen suggested continuing with their task, he glared. “Screw that! I’m not going to look for those goddamn bottles after this! Like hell I’m doing that crazy scientist anymore favors.”

When the redhead looked over at Allen, he noticed the other boy pointedly ignoring him. The cat ears on top of Allen’s head were flat and he looked just as agitated as Lavi felt. A sudden, overwhelming annoyance overtook him. He stomped over to Allen and yanked the box from his hands, tossing it across the floor. The sounds of more bottles breaking echoed against the stone walls of their basement prison.

“Forget about Komui’s goddamn potions!” Lavi growled. “He can look for them himself!”

Allen stared in shock as Lavi threw the box. He couldn’t recall seeing Lavi lose his temper before, and he backed away a bit, not sure what to expect. Now that the box was destroyed, Lavi was going to focus on something else… and Allen knew that he was the next convenient target of Lavi’s frustration, especially with how he had been avoiding the other. Lavi probably wouldn’t hurt him, but this still would not be pleasant.

“Aah. Easy there, Al. Might want to wait until we get off the bus for that,” Lavi said, stilling the other boy’s fingers. He managed to just catch the name that slipped through Allen’s blue lips, and hoped it was correct. He pulled Allen’s hands into his own and sandwiched them in hopes of warming the numb digits.

The bus trip wasn’t long. It would take maybe five or ten minutes to get to his apartment, and it wasn’t even far from the bus route – Half a block at most. Still, he worried that the longer they sat here, the closer the kid came to hypothermia. Lavi was a well-read individual, and even he could see the signs. He had to warm him up fast.

So, he did what he could until they reached Lavi’s apartment. He held Allen’s hands and let the other boy lean against him. Even as soaked as he was, he was twice as warm as Allen. Lavi shivered when he nuzzled his neck, but the intimacy of the act sent such a wave of heat across his face, it more than made up for the sudden cold nose pressed against his skin.

Lavi looked up at the street signs to gauge how much longer it would take to get to their destination. They were almost there. Just another couple blocks.

Allen made a small sound as Lavi pulled his hands away, but he didnt remove his hands from Lavis as the other tried to warm him up. Even with his freezing clothes, he felt very comfortable at the moment, and started drifting off to sleep.

Lavi was tugging on his new rabbit ears, hoping that they would just come off. But every pull and prod he tried only sent shooting pains into his skull and down his spine. He huffed and finally let go, realizing he was doing more harm than good. There were more pressing issues at hand – like how the hell they were going to get out of the basement.

At the mention of Allen’s inability to activate his Innocence, Lavi started to feel a bit panicky. He reached for his hammer, only to find his right hip empty of the weapon. He sighed. “Shit, and I left my hammer in my room.” Even if he could activate, there was nothing he could do without his hammer.

Lavi moved to the door and kicked it soundly, but the damned thing didn’t budge. It was made of sturdy, hard wood, and it likely wouldn’t give way easily. He pounded his fists on the door in hopes that someone would be nearby to hear. “Hey! Someone! Let us OUT!”

“Careful…” Allen said, backing up as Lavi kicked and pounded at the door. He didn’t want a repeat of what had happened a few minutes ago. His clothes were sticking uncomfortably to him, and he still was feeling weird from whatever had spilled on him.

“I dont think anyone is going to hear us… no one comes down here. It will be a while before they look for us…” Allen sighed, he was going to miss dinner, at the very least. But at least if Komui didn’t look for them, he could count on Jerry to start asking around if Allen continued to miss meals.

Which meant he was stuck alone with Lavi in a locked room, after trying to avoid him for weeks. It had been easy to act normal when they were both distracted with the problem, but once Lavi calmed down he probably was going to confront Allen about what happened.

“Might as well keep looking for those things Komui wanted, nothing else to do.” he said, hoping he could somehow keep Lavi distracted. He went over to the box he had previously pulled out, and started to rummage through it, trying to act casual about it. However, while he could control his expression and body language, he couldn’t control the new ears on his head, which were still flat against his head from the tension he felt.

After dragging the half frozen boy with him on the last bus of the night, Lavi heaved a sigh of relief after getting them seated. The bus was warm and dry, and the redhead hoped this would help wake the other boy up some so he could at least get a name out of him. He peered over at him, watching to make sure he was still breathing.

The other boy’s eyes were closed as he pressed his face against the window. Lavi pulled off his wet, knit gloves and rubbed his cold hands together. He touched his hand to his forehead and was shocked to find it colder than even the tips of his fingers. That probably wasn’t good. He pulled on the boy’s arm until he turned the other way, now leaning against Lavi’s shoulder.

Lavi put his arm around him, more worried than embarrassed to be half hugging a complete stranger. “Hey, best stay away from the cold window,” Lavi said, trying to sound nonchalant even as nervousness gripped his chest. What if the kid got frostbite? Or even hypothermia? He looked in pretty bad shape – like if he fell asleep, he wouldn’t wake up.

Now that was a horrible thought. A shiver of fear ran down Lavi’s back. He had to try and keep him awake. “What’s your name?”

Allen felt a warm hand touch his face, and felt himself pulled over to lean against the other. The person was saying something… He only caught the last bit, and mumbled something that sounded vaguely like ‘Allen’.

Allen turned his face to nuzzle into his neck. Warm… He couldn’t think about anything except the warmth, next to him and in the air.  His clothes were still soaked and freezing, so Allen’s frozen fingers fumbled in an attempt to take his coat off.

When Lavi realized what was actually on Allen’s head, he lost it. “Allen! Your head! Fuck, man! Ahahaha!” He doubled over in laughter, the ridiculousness of the situation just too much to hold it in anymore. Here they were – stuck in a room in the basement with no way out, and one of Komui’s damned experiments had to go and give Allen kitty ears. It was too much!

However, his laughter only lasted for a minute or two. As he howled with laughter, something hit him in the face. Upon opening his eye, he noticed his vision obstructed. When he went to move the object, he realized that it was warm, fluffy, and very stuck to his head. “What the—”

Yes. That was definitely a rabbit ear. He now had floppy rabbit ears, much akin to the kitty ears on Allen’s head. “Fuck.” It was then that he realized the same chemicals that had gotten on Allen had also splashed on him. It wasn’t funny anymore.

Allen glared at Lavi as he laughed, still not sure what had happened to him… but it couldn’t be that bad if Lavi was laughing about it.

Allen noticed something on Lavi’s head as well, at about the same time as Lavi did. Allen snickered as Lavi swore.

“They fit you.” If only Kanda could see him now, he had the ears to match the nickname! But if the stuff that got on Lavi made him grow ears, and that same stuff had fallen on him…

Allen reached up again to confirm. Yep, fuzzy objects on his head were most likely ears, though they weren’t rabbit ears… Allen sighed, and looked down at his soaked clothes. He was still covered in whatever chemicals had been in those bottles, making his skin tingle and the smell making him a bit light headed. Hopefully the ears were the worst of it, and nothing else would happen. Except…

“I cant activate my arm…” he said as he lifted his left arm again. It wouldn’t surprise him if Komui had made some sort of Innocence activation blocking potion. And of course it would be Allen’s luck to drop the box containing said potion on his head.

As Allen walked to the door, Lavi tried to follow, only to slip on the mixture of chemicals on the ground. He fell on his ass and let out a quick yelp of surprise. When he finally managed to get to his feet, he was fuming. He kicked one of the upended boxes to the side in frustration.

“Ok. I am really going to kill Komui now. This is ridiculous!” Lavi shook his hands, trying to get the mess off of them, but only succeeding in spraying the mess around the room more. Giving up, he wiped his hands on his shirt and walked over to Allen, broken glass crunching under his boots.

Lavi looked over at the other boy, who seemed to be having a staring contest with the door. He still had debris from the fallen boxes stuck to him – even something on his head, but it was too dark in the basement room for him to see properly. “Hey, you got something… here let me get it,” Lavi said, reaching out at the offending object. He grabbed at the debris and pulled, only to find it stuck tight.

Allen shouted in pain when Lavi pulled at something on his head. Without thinking he pushed Lavi’s hand away and backed up against the door.

“Ow… what…?” That should not have hurt that much. Allen reached up and felt the top of his head carefully, expecting that there was some sort of injury. What he did not expect was to feel odd fuzzy lumps pressed flat against his head. He couldn’t tell exactly what they were, but he knew exactly what, or rather, who was to blame for it.

“Komui….” he growled under his breath.

Lavi was just about to look for something to wedge into the doorframe in hopes of getting the damned door open, when Allen knocked himself into the shelves. Lavi’s eyes widened as the boxes crashed onto the other Exorcist, pinning him to the ground. Some boxes broke open, spilling their contents over Allen.

“Shit!” Lavi exclaimed, quickly kneeling down and pulling the boxes off of Allen. “Are you ok, Al?” As he grabbed the spilled boxes, he got the strange chemicals on his own skin, not bothering to worry about it in the moment.

“Ow…” Allen hissed as he sat up. Those boxes were not light, he could tell he was going to be bruised later. The top of his head hurt worse than the rest, he must have been hit by a heavy one there.

“I’m okay.” he said, and tried to wipe some of the liquid off of his face with a drenched sleeve before opening his eyes. “Ugh, who knows what this stuff is… I hope none of these were what we were supposed to be looking for.” He was surrounded by shattered glass, and various other debris, and he sighed at the mess.

“I need to change…” His uniform was soaked, and the chemicals were making his skin tingle and itch a bit. “I’m just going to break the door down. Komui should have told us it could lock us in.” He stood, ignoring Lavi to stand in front of the door. A few moments later, he held up his left hand, looking at it.

I cant activate?

letspleasuretogether:

Lavi had jumped at the door slamming, muttering more obscenities as he cursed Komui in as many languages as he could recall in the moment. When Allen asked him for help, he sighed and set the confounding list on one of the many stacks of boxes and walked over to the door. Allen was trying to pry it open.

“Why don’t you just use the doorkn— oh. Why… Why is there no doorknob?” Lavi asked, a sudden feeling of dread washing over him. He stared at the door, a sinking feeling in his stomach. He pushed the door, hoping it would swing open, but only met with solid oak.

Allen put his shoulder to the door and shoved, but it didnt budge.

“I would really hate to have to break it down with Crown Clown, I dont think Komui would like that…” he muttered, backing up to kick at the door. Maybe he could just break it a little if he kicked around where the lock would be?

He forgot how close the first rows of shelves began from the door, and backed right into one. He felt it tip and unthinkingly grabbed the closest shelf and pulled to keep it from crashing down into the other shelves. He managed to pull it back upright, but it tilted towards him instead, and the entire top shelf of boxes slipped forward and fell.

So, only seconds from preparing to kick down the door, Allen found himself laying on the floor after several boxes of unknown contents crashed around him, covered in dust and chemicals.

letspleasuretogether:

Skimming the list, Lavi sighed. “How are we supposed to figure this out? I don’t even know what this is supposed to mean – The purple bottle, but not the really purple bottle with the squiggly writing.” Lavi looked up from the list after he read off the confusing description. “Who even lists things like that? Goddammit.”

He followed Allen over to the shelf, where he’d already taken one box down. Lavi set the list to the side and grabbed a box of his own to rifle through. Sitting on the cold, stone floor, he placed the box between his legs as he shuffled through the contents.

Lavi stole a glance at Allen while the other boy wasn’t looking. He hadn’t said much since they’d arrived and it was starting to bother him how quiet they were both being.

Allen tried to concentrate on the contents of the box, but he jumped when he heard a loud bang. He looked around, and noticed the door they had entered through had swung shut.

“We should prop this open with a box…” Allen muttered as he got up to open the door again. There was already dust starting to fill the air from just the two boxes they had disturbed so far, he hoped leaving the door open would blow it out. But when he arrived at the door, he noticed there was no handle on this side. He pushed against the door, but it didn’t budge.

“Lavi, can you help me with the door?” he asked, hoping it had just gotten a bit stuck. They wouldn’t have designed doors with no way out, right?

letspleasuretogether:

“Goddammit, Komui!” Lavi cursed under his breath once he saw the mess they had been saddled with. “Why can’t his lazy ass get down here and find his shit himself?” There was no way they’d get this done any time soon. He would be trapped down in this musty basement for days.

“He cant even do paperwork, he would never do this himself…” Allen replied with a sigh, and handed Lavi the list as he entered the room.

“Might as well get started.” he muttered, and pulled a box off of the nearest shelf, coughing as disturbed dust filled the air. “At least it will be obvious which boxes were checked.”
