“I think everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think,” Steve Jobs said in a lost interview from 1995.
But for a beginner, learning to code from scratch can be intimidating.
Enter CodeSpells. UC San Diego computer scientists developed this video game to teach people how to code. The story line is simple: you’re a wizard that uses spells (i.e. code) to navigate through the world, fight off foes, and solve problems.
While experienced coders can delve deep into the programming to create some truly devastating spells, newbies can easily experiment with the simple drag-and-drop coding interface.
If you’re into Minecraft, the CodeSpells team has also developed LearnToMod — a tool that teaches coding through Minecraft.
Okay, so, I see a lot of problems with people getting works stolen off the internet because the art is in a “public space.” While yes, that is true, the internet is public space and art is posted there, but that doesn’t make it public property, properly known as “Public Domain.”
Public Domain:
“Art becomes public domain only after 70 years after the artist who made the work has DIED, 95 years after publication, or 120 years after creation, which ever comes first”. (Source). This is why you are allowed to use famous works like Van Gogh’s “Starry Knight” or Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” freely with out copyright issues, the artist have died well over 70 years ago, thus the work they have produced is now free for the pubic to use.
Publishing:
Posting art on the internet is not considered published works. “Published works are works that are made into copies able to distribute to the public.” (Source). Posting art on a site like tumblr, deviantart, message boards, youtube, vimeo, or any other number of websites are meant for display, not for redistribution unless the artist as stated that: “This work is available for redistribution.” However, if you do not see that sentence anywhere, then that art is purely for display only and you must ask that artist permission to use that work unless you are favoriting it on deviantart, reblogging/liking on tumblr/blogspot, adding the video/song to a playlist on youtube, etc.
Intellectual Property:
Now, until the art work is under public domain, the works in question are protected under “Intellectual Property.” Where artist, inventors, writers, creators in general, are protected under the constitution and have full ownership of the works they have created from the moment it is created. (Source). Taking someone’s work that does not belong to you is considered theft and punishable by the full extent of the law. Meaning, the case can be taken to court and serious repercussions will ensue for the offender. (Source). The works are not just protected in the US, but world wide, and outlined in “article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.” (Source).
Article 27.
(1) Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits. (2) Everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author. (Source).
TL;DR: Yes the internet is public space, but that does not mean the works on the internet is considered public domain. All works are protected by Intellectual Property until it has been 70 years after artist’s death, 95 years after publication, or 120 years after date of creation; whatever comes first. Posting works on the internet does not count as publishing.
It is safe to say, any works created now will not be free to use publicly in your lifetime unless stated otherwise by the creator them self.
-pointed look at assholes trying to justify art theft, especially in tattooing-
also relevant for bjds. For example, @harucasting‘s Adori is their artistic and intellectual property, anyone who tries to recast it is violating the artist’s intellectual property and by extent, all recast bjds are a violation of intellectual property because as far as I know there is no such thing as a sculpt of the proper age to be considered public domain.
Since TV animation tends to have smaller budgets than feature animation, we are often times limited in the kind of animation we can do in terms of backgrounds. Here are a couple workarounds I have to show movement in a background.
The first is a tracking shot into cam where our Character is running without gaining away or from cam (but they could if you wanted) The foreground is the ground plane which is just a simple looping set of lines. The BG is actually a static image that would slowly drift down towards the horizon line imitating movement away from the background.
The second is also a tracking shot where the character is more in profile. This one requires some soft focus and low detail background drawings (usually not a lot, maybe 3 looping images. I only used 2 here but the theory holds.
The last one only requires a single background layout, but we use the camera to imitate action as it pulls out over a static image.
This is all based on my own experience rather than hard rulesets, so you know as usual take it with a grain of salt.

I’m not sure what most you guys write with these days, if the majority of you are still chugging along with good ol’ Microsoft Word or whatever, but let me introduce you to this beauty:
This is my go to program. It’s light and doesn’t have a five minute start up like Word (or maybe my laptop’s just really clunky and old) and it has these features that make the entire story-building ordeal easier.
Seriously, ever since I started using this I’ve been just spewing shit out.
It has both a free and a pro version. The free version is beautiful and efficient just on its own and is the one I’ve been using the longest, but if you want to have your work on all your devices, have a night theme for all-nighters or just have some stylish documents, the pro version is $5 per month. If you can, please support them!
The layout is simple and clutter free, nothing overwhelming. The navigation has an option to give you a visual look on what you’re scrolling through rather than the normal scroll bar, which has saved my eyes from squinting every five minutes.
Its got a standard formatting options but not so many that you feel overwhelmed. Simplicity matters! It also has a handy productivity counter which tracks word/character count, pages, reading time, etc.
There are three window options: compact, standard (size-adjustable) and full screen. I always use full screen but when I’m multitasking or want watch youtube videos, the window becomes smaller without cramping your work space since it doesn’t have a toolbar.
It’s pretty hard to find this program (at least it was for me haha) cause of its name. Since this is my favourite writing program so I’m going to spread the word and share it, since it deserves more recognition B^)
