Ive already heard stories about Trump supporters harassing and attacking people I follow… so I want to say something I think is important…

Your safety is important. If you feel that your gender, sexuality, religion, or race is putting you in danger, and you want to hide, that’s okay.

Its not a bad thing to go on the down low, or go back into the closet if you are out. If you can pass as white, cis, hetero, or even another religion, and feel that you need to for your safety, that’s okay. Do it.

I feel like there is a lot of stuff about how you have to be yourself, that you shouldn’t hide who you are, that denying when people ask you is lying… and I feel like its important right now to reassure those who are scared, that your safety is first priority, and that its okay to keep these details a secret. It doesn’t mean that you are not being yourself, it means that you are prioritizing yourself and your safety.

Even if that means outright lying if you are asked directly, if you feel safer doing it, absolutely do it.

Consider your gender, sexuality, race, and religion as personal information. Its not anyone’s business unless you trust them. This includes friends, parents, employers… even doctors dont need this information, just tell them your sex, not gender.

Basically, this whole situation is going to require a lot of people to
play a very long game of pretend. So lets all pretend we are secret agents,
under deep cover, and were assigned an identity we need to use for
the next 4 years. And we need to blend in to avoid detection, so the identity is as close to being cis and straight as you can pull off.

But please, I know this is bad… but stay safe. That includes staying safe from yourself.

This is going to be a long 4 years, but if it goes as horribly as we all fear, at least it is unlikely Trump will be reelected… and we can rebuild. After Bush, we got Obama, because a lot of people saw how damaging Bush was to the country. After Trump, we will get someone who can heal the damage. It seems to be a pattern… things have to get bad before they can get better… This is a big step back, but I think maybe people will have their eyes opened a bit, after seeing just how intolerant Trump really is, and be more accepting towards diversity. We already got gay marriage to be legalized for the entire country.  After Trump, we may be able to get outlaw conversion therapy, get Trans rights all across the country, who knows?

And there is always the possibility he will fuck up enough to get impeached. Or he will lose the office in some other way.

Disclaimer under cut

Disclaimer:

The gender part is intended towards Trans people. It would be up to you whether you would want to hide the fact you were designated another gender at birth and have had it changed legally (and/or surgically), or if you want to hide the fact you identify/pass as a different gender than assigned, but those are the safest options. Obviously if you are currently passing as a different gender than what is on your legal documents, you will have a more difficult time with employers and doctors if that comes up… But if you have been doing that up to this point, and not many people know your documentation says otherwise, it may be safest for you to stick to that. Just evaluate your situation, and think about what may come up in the future that may require you to provide documents showing your currently assigned gender.
It is likely not going to be safe to tell people if you identify as any gender other than male or female. Those not on the gender binary already get shit for it, I can only imagine this will get worse. For people identifying as a gender other than male or female, it may be best to pick one to pass as, or go with what was designated as birth, and just pretend to be that gender until this blows over. Obviously, you can choose to go for a more androgynous look if you prefer, but it would be safest to pick a single ‘socially acceptable’ gender to pass as for the time being.

The race part is intended for people who are of mixed race, or who can pass as other races. Obviously, it is easy to tell many peoples race at a glance. But there are a lot of mixed race people who can pass as white. And many white people are terrible at identifying anything past ‘Black, White, Asian, Mexican, (and maybe Middle Eastern)’ anyways. If you can pass as another race, absolutely do it if it will make you safer. You may not be able to pass as white, but even among the ‘minority’ races, some may be better than others…

The intent for the Sexuality part seems obvious, but Ill say it anyways… If you can pass as straight, you should do it if you feel it would be safer. Even if it means convoluted shit like swapping dates with buddies to appear as straight pairs, find other queer couples and do double dates. Lie to your doctors if you think that’s necessary. Whatever keeps you safe.

Religion I also feel should be obvious… Muslims are the ones I feel are most at risk, at the moment. I wont pretend I know a lot about Islam, but I would think that your god would forgive you for lying about your religion, or not following certain practices that make you identifiable as Muslim, if it keeps you safe and alive.
Christian is the easiest and safest religion to pretend to be. You dont even have to say you pray or go to church, just claim to be a casual Christian or some shit. Just remember there’s different types of Christians, like Catholics or Lutherans, so make sure you at least read a Wiki article on the basics. Or you can claim to be agnostic or atheist. Not as preferable, but not a claim that will usually put your life in danger. Though depending on where you work, your job may be at risk. So claim whatever you need to for your situation, and make sure to be able to recite at least basic info.

A personal bit:
I already do this in a way. Not because I felt necessarily unsafe before, but I want to explain and argue about being genderfluid to every person I ever met, so I just pass as cis female. I would only mention it if I knew I was in a safe environment, and the subject of being trans was already brought up, so only once have I ever actually mentioned it in a conversation.
Now, I’m glad I have kept this quiet, because it means no one at work knows I’m not cis, and very few friends who know me in real life know this about me. The ones who know this are all in the lgbt+ spectrum themselves.

I am honestly terrified for so many people… I have a friend who is still recovering from gender reassignment surgery, I’m scared for her now. I follow a person who posted about getting pushed down stairs because they were trans. I have a Bi friend who mentioned that they were considering drinking bleach if Trump won the election…

And even straight white cis women are in danger… and this can affect other countries too, because if Trump refuses to allow refugees, people will die… And he will deport so many people, too… And poor people and veterans may lose benefits…

It feels like the only way to be safe from Trumps reign of terror is to be an American white straight middle-class cis male. And even they are at risk because Trump is anti-union.
And he could have a tantrum, try to nuke a country, and get us all killed. There’s that too.

So no one is safe.

Sorry to my followers for all the political posts Ill be doing, but tbh I’m fucking pissed at this BS country for electing this joke.

And I’m terrified for all my friends who are now in the line of fire. Like, I’m white, and I can pass as straight cis, and I live in a tolerant state… so the only thing I have to worry about is being poor and a woman. I have a lot of friends who dont have that privilege…

Anyways, if you want to block my reblogs, and any rants, I’m just using #politics as my tag for all of this.

exhausted by how much america hates women

bc thats what it is. no one wanted to like her, no one wanted to trust her. people who supported her kept having to add the disclaimer that they didn’t really want her in power, she was just the ~lesser of two evils~

the republican smear campaign against her worked bc people love to hate women

and it doesnt matter how good they are at what they do. doesnt matter that she’s the most competent person to run for president maybe ever. ppl would rather see a dangerous, unstable, bigoted lunatic in the white house than a woman. ppl who voted for bernie would rather switch their support to gary johnson – whose platform is much closer to trump’s than it is to bernie’s – than support the woman who beat their old white fav. trump is winning bc he’s running against a woman, and the misogynist masses would give literally anyone but her the win

this is so funny because i, personally, am exhausted by how much white women love to claim the victim narrative. wake up, girl. it’s black women who are driving the gender gap against trump… white women are voting him in by a majority (:

no person of colour gives a shit about whether or not hillary is or was likable–many of us voted for her despite disliking her because we were scared shitless of the other option. it is genuinely shocking to me that you would implicate black and latino men in this when it was white people all along.

it wasn’t about the republican smear campaign against her–it was the racism and bigotry donald trump campaigned with that appealed to white voters.

get this into your head: it wasn’t about her being a woman except peripherally. it was about race. white voters weren’t voting against clinton–they were voting for trump, for racism, for the deportation of muslims and latinxs. sear this chart into your little eyeballs and TAKE SOME FUCKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT.

Boop

WHITE WOMEN STILL HAVING WEDGIES PRETENDING THIS IS ABOUT FEMINISM..?????

I think you all fail to realize that a lot of white women hate women just as much as white men do. (Especially conservative Christian white women.)

Yes, Clinton being a woman was not the entire picture here, but it was a part of it.
And that chart above supports the OP’s argument as well, because Trump is against women. By voting for Trump, people show they support his view on women in general. I honestly dont even understand why that chart was added, it does nothing to counter the OP’s point. The demographics of voters does not prove or disprove the point that people may have chose to not vote for Hillary (Or, voted for Trump) because they hate women.

I saw someone post this tweet yesterday, and I feel that it sums it up pretty well…

There isn’t just one reason that Trump won.

He won because of sexism, and there are people did not want to see a woman in office, even if she was far more qualified.

He also won because of racism. And homophobia, Islamophobia, and a number of other issues that boil down to people being intolerant of diversity.

And a side note, since some parts of @hotgaydumbledore‘s ‘counter argument’ bugged me:
The OP was not trying to ‘claim a white woman victim narrative’. They said “people love to hate women”. Not ‘white women’ specifically, all women. And they didn’t say ‘men love to hate women’, either, because its not just men.

Nor were they pretending that it was not white people that voted Trump into office. We all know, even without that chart, that the majority of Trumps votes were from white people.

Literally the only point the OP word ‘white’ at all was “old white fav Trump”. You were the one who brought up race.

Its like you didn’t even read the OP at all.

those posts that are like “if you drink an entire bottle of benadryl at 3 am you can fight your shadow self in a parking lot” always remind me of Ford for some reason

I thought this meant Ford Prefect from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and agreed with it.

This particular example is true, actually. The active ingredient in Benadryl (and many over-the-counter sleep meds) is diphenhydramine, which at high doses causes an incredibly unpleasant high. Nightmarish hallucinations and intense physical discomfort. Every report I’ve ever read has described a hellish trip not worth repeating. Sure, you can fight your shadow self in a parking lot, but your shadow self is going to win.

Ive always been tempted to try tripping on diphenhydramine… I love horror stuff… But Ive read a bunch of accounts of people who have tried it, and its not just vague cartoonish stuff like shadow monsters.

Like, yea, some people get really weird stuff, like shadow monsters, demons, the like…
But some people see really realistic things, like waves of spiders crawling down their walls, beetles breaking out their skin, seeing their(or others) body randomly cut up and bleeding… Things that may be improbable, but could be believable, if you saw it when you weren’t tripping.

If it was all really outlandish unrealistic stuff, I think I could probably handle it, it would be easy for me to remember it wasn’t real… But I couldn’t remind myself I was tripping, if it looked like it could be reality.

So yea. Tempting, because I love horror and seeing weird shadow monsters or demons or whatever would be awesome… and I also want to like, for science… but hell no to visions of any sort of bugs doing anything near me. (Its mostly the accounts of people seeing bugs that freak me out tbh)

(I’m scared to try anything that makes you trip, for this reason… tripping sounds hella interesting tbh, but I heard that people with ‘issues’ can have bad trips… so I would probably only have really bad trips…)

this is to educate my non-American followers. This really is how the US sees itself. (and yes, 95% of the time, Florida = WHAT?!)

wake up america

… Please tell me you guys are kidding.

Florida is like it’s own country I swear

I’m from Florida and I can confirm this. Also, South Florida is basically Miami and alligators.

Actually everyone north of San Francisco in California counts themselves as part of the North-West, too… under most conditions, at least.

Also, I grew up in Wisconsin, and can confirm they consider themselves ‘Midwest’. This always confused me as a child. Still confuses me as an adult.

Ok so it may be Halloween, not Summerween, but dont y’all think for one second that Halloween loser candy doesn’t have a chance of taking on a trickster persona of its own, and that a Halloween Trickster isn’t going around eating children who lose the spirit of Halloween.

So, trick or treat, kiddos.

I got glow in the dark nail polish and Halloween nail art stickers to make spoopy nails for Halloween. Even though they don’t fit with my Bill costume at all. Or maybe they do… Who says Bill doesn’t see Mabel doing up her nails for Halloween and demand she does his too? Lol

Anyways I spend the first half of my day at the office probably not in costume, so did nails for that…
(I hate my hands but eh the nails look ok)

really bummed to hear this news. unless more copies are printed (which may not be likely considering the book is limited edition), some folks who thought they’d claimed one through preorder might end up with their orders cancelled.

apparently about 1200 copies were confirmed for pre-order in the US—200 more than it was advertised were available—while preorders are actually still open in Canada and Japan. i’m not sure yet if this is because extra copies were printed for international sales, or if preordering for these countries has been left open for some other reason.

the bright side to this is how quickly the limited edition journal sold; 1200+ copies at $150 each in 3 days. hopefully this (finally) shows DisneyHyperion how serious Gravity Falls fans are about merch—and prompts them to meet the demand.

that being said, if you’re concerned about your preorder through or you’d just like more copies of the limited edition journal to be available, contact DisneyHyperion and let ‘em know. here is their twitter and here is their website (tho i recommend twitter, as their Contact Us page on the site seems to be just a maze of FAQs).

Also, don’t be afraid to contact Amazon’s customer support! Just be sure to ask them to check your order confirmation number to see if you’ll actually get the journal.

That’s what I did, anyways, but now I’m paranoid.

Someone else contacted customer support, and were told that Amazon was unable to confirm their place in the queue. It also sounded as if Amazon may not fulfill orders in the same order that they were received…

It sounded like the reason Amazon didn’t limit the amount of pre-orders, was because they didn’t realize that the item was limited quantity.

Which is quite frankly, annoying, as I’m sure its not the first time they’ve dealt with collector edition items with limited quantities… And if pre-ordering isn’t closed yet in other countries, even more orders are coming in… tbh there is certainly enough interest for DisneyHyperion to print another 1000 copies…
