So I saw this article and guess who I thought of.

It is very tiny but I wanted to read it… so I typed it out to save others the struggle lol:

Below Picture: All at sea: The boat crewed by Steve Shapiro, above left, and Bob Weise, above right, had to be attended by firemen, water rescue teams, police, the coastguard and an ambulance
Headline: Not you two again! Captain Calamities (both 71) trying to cross Atlantic have to be rescued 9 times… and they haven’t even left England yet
Article:
By Criss Brooke

For two sailors aged 71, crossing teh Atlantic in a rickety old yacht was never going to be plain sailing.
But the amateur yachtsmen have become a laughing stock after having to be rescued nine times – the latest while they were on dry land.
The most recent incident involving the so-called “Captain Calamities” was the most comical yet – with their 40ft boat Nora tipping over at low tide, causing a candle to start a fire on board.
The fire brigade raced to rescue the hapless seadogs, who had moored at the quayside in Mayle, Cornwall. But despite calls for them to be stopped for their own safety, the lifelong American friends continue to be oblivious to the fuss and intend to sail on next week.
Steve Shapiro, a screenwriter, and Bob Weise, a former Army helicopter pilot, remain largely good-humored and dismissive of the ‘calamity’ tag. The duo were shopping for food on Tuesday when they were alerted to the fire.
The previous day they had been told how to tie up to the quayside to stop the boat tipping over at low tide. But they made a mistake and a fire started when the yacht fell on its side.
After surveying the damage yesterday, Mr. Shapiro said: “It appears a candle had not been blown out properly and a spark relit itself. The fire was under control by the time we arrived, and caused considerable but not substantial damage.”
Two fire crews, two water rescue teams, police, coastguard, and an ambulance crew all attended the blaze. Mr. Shapiro said Nora was ‘absolutely fit to sail’ and that the pair still hoped to leave when they had the right wind, insisting: “We’ve not had bad luck the whole trip.”
The pensioners set off from Norway on their ‘last hurrah’ in July, with the goal of sailing to Maine in the US over a 12-month period in a 38-year-old gaff cutter which Mr. Shapiro bought from a Norwegian doctor. Since then fire and rescue services have come to their aid off the coasts of Norway, Scotland, Ireland, and south-west England.
They were towed back to Norway when Nora started leaking. Their battery died near an oil rig, their engine has failed and they have run aground several times. The RNLI and its lifeboats cost (E)415,000 a day to run and Mr. Shapiro – who has caused a significant demand on resources – has made a donation to the charity. But locals in Cornwall have accused the men of putting an unfair strain on rescue services. Fisherman Grant Lorris said: “They don’t have a clue what they’re doing.”
Hayle harbourmaster Peter Haddock added: “If they need assistance again it could be dangerous for all concerned.” An article on the sail-world.com website even asked: “Should they be stopped?”
Unfortunately for British coastguards their next stop is Devon and they are keen to finish the trip on their ‘resilient’ boat. Barring further disasters the duo hope to begin crossing the Atlantic in March.

My cousin is trying to rent a ritzy apartment in Piedmont that’s like $450 a month, but requires renters to make an income of over $100K a year.

What… what the fuck? Why would that be necessary at all?! I know landlords will usually ask to know your gross income to make sure you’ll be able to pay for your lodging until your lease is up, but $100K?! I thought gentrification was supposed to be kind of subtle. Why is being rich so cheap?

Welcome to the Bay area of Cali lol. Most renters want you to make 3x-5x the rent at least (and rent for a cheap 1br apartment in a terrible neighborhood averages $1200)
That rent is actually hella cheap for the area… Like damn. I guess being rich has perks like that?

hey if u can’t drive/are a slow learner due to a disability or mental illness, just picture historical figures like pirates or the founding fathers trying to operate a car.

it’s only “easy” bc we’ve normalized it.

it would be great for neurotypicals to reblog this

I didn’t get my license until I was 26 because of my mental health struggles. Just sayin’.

Not to mention driving a car is a terrifying and expensive thing.

I didn’t get my license until I was 26 (Im still 26 lol) because I was terrified I would get distracted on the road because of my ADHD, or I would freeze up in a bad situation due to other issues.
I do have to listen to music while driving or I can lose focus much easier, but otherwise it isn’t as bad as I had expected, I actually like driving… (even considering how terrible Cali drivers are and how I have to always be alert and anticipate drivers around me will do something stupid…)
I probably like driving so much because I grew up in a family that never had a car, so Im used to always having to take public transit to do anything and having a car is so damn convenient and I can be way more antisocial with one because I can do drive thru for fast food or go shopping at 11 at night and do ROAD TRIPS on my own…

Have you ever thought “Man, I feel impossibly shitty and I don’t know why”?

Run through this checklist before you do anything else.

  1. What have I eaten in the last 24 hours? Is it enough? If not, go and eat some food, you butt.
  2. Am I hydrated? If not, put some fluids in your body, fool.
  3. Have I slept an acceptable amount in the last 24 hours and preceeding few days? If not, do your utmost to have a nap. You need a reset, bro.
  4. Have I been outside/partaken in whatever form of exercise I am capable of? You’re stagnating, homie.
  5. Have I communicated with anyone? At all? About anything? In the last 24 hours? Sup, you’re not actually a lone wolf, and even if you’re just shouting BUTTLUMPS at someone over the intertubes, it’s better than shouting it at yourself inside your own head.

So basically: eat, drink, sleep, walk, and talk. If you still feel like emotional ass after that, start looking for more involved explanations.

This shit is no joke.

All of these are extremely important.

Adding: 6. Have I communicated too much? Am I overstimulated? Do I need some quiet time? Go stare at a blank wall in utter silence for a bit.

I try to go through this kind of checklist whenever I feel funky. It really helps.

Adding: 7. Have I taken my meds today?

U.S. Census Bureau : U.S. Census Bureau, LGBTQ Americans Are Americans, Too

Hi, if you identify as LGBTQ+ in any way, or are an ally, please take a moment to add your name to this.
I think its important for gender identity and sexuality to be included on the census, so the bureau can give a report on how common it is to identify as such. There seems to be the idea among those who dont identify as LGBTQ+ that it is ‘rare’ or ‘unusual’ to meet someone who does identify as such, and if the census were to record this, it would help fight that idea, and could help fight for rights and such, since we can show that we are not rare and not a minority of the population that can be ignored…

(Its not my petition, but I got an email about it and I want to spread it around)

I think one of my favorite things, looking back at the finale, is the ultimate fate of Bill Cipher. Not only was he completely and utterly destroyed by Stan, but he also:

  • Had his statue form chucked down a hole and ended up in a remote part of Oregon rather than a heavily populated area
  • Had to enlist random nerds from around the world in his plan to gain form again
  • The nerds quickly became sidetracked by an enormous jigsaw puzzle that took weeks to finish
  • When the nerds finally found him, the first person to shake his hand was a baby, who was too much young to make any sort of deal with a demon
  • Bill was quickly apprehended by the local authorities for trespassing and had to spend the night in jail
  • Said authorities also managed to lose track of Bill’s hat
  • Finally found a home at Confusion Hill, where he was promptly stapled to a tree and will remain there, alone and hatless, until the heat death of the universe

Really, this is the best outcome I could have ever hoped for with a villain this terrible. I would say his fate in our dimension is poetic justice or irony of some kind, but then where would the “Jason Ritter’s puzzle reaction” meme fit into all this?

Id like to add:

Someone actually found Bill before the Cipher Hunt, and shook his hand. It was the guy who wrote on the money they had found in the treasure chest, and put his twitter name in the chest too. He has a video of him finding the statue he put on his youtube. So Bill could be possessing that person...

Bill actually has a new hat, the staff at Confusion Hill just have not been able to put it up yet because its been too wet.

I love the fact that their argument boiled down to “OMG TEHY CAN TBE SLAEVS THEY GT FREE FOOOD AN DSHETLER” like that’s not generally a given for slaves.

Wasn’t “They feed and clothe them and give them shelter!” A common phrase to justify American Chattel Slavery back in the day?

Among others.

My coworker was bitching the other day about how its ‘ridiculous’ that inmates get free food and shelter and even an education and I was like “you realize in return they’re forced to work, so its basically slave labor, right?” But she argued that it wasn’t the same thing =.=

I’m so sorry to our younger millennial followers, but if Democrats don’t unite in fierce opposition to this uncaring, incompetent, anti-public school billionaire, you guys could be well and truly fucked…..

CALL YOUR SENATORS AND SPREAD THE WORD!!!

Reminder that this woman’s foundation advocates for the return of child labor because “practical education and social skills while learning the value of a dollar”.

She’s incredibly stupid and incompetent like Trumpy McFuckface, but she’ll bleed schools dry and send the kids back into the coal mines

They’re only a “dead end” in the sense that their funding literally relies on standardized test scores so bad scores means loss of funding which never made sense because why the fuck wouldn’t you want to give a school a better opportunity to educate kids?

And tbh, that shit is something dems and the gop had a hand in implementing when it started with that shitass no child left behind act from Bush and the obama administration only dug the hole deeper by holding a competition for schools to get more funding by seeing who had the higher scores.

Which meant that impoverished schools were at an unfair disadvantage because they already couldn’t pay their teachers or afford better programs, books, and software. So how could they compete with public schools that were well-funded?

It became less about actual education and more about memorization of facts in order to get high scores on standardized tests so they could then justify begging for more funding.

If public schools are a dead end, it’s because the gop and democrats have made them a dead end.

Lets be honest here. What this is really about is Republicans are probably afraid of how educated Millennials are becoming, and because of that, Millennials are more likely to understand politics and make an educated vote (And thus, many of them vote Democrat, as demonstrated by the fact that the majority of voters under 25 voted for Clinton in this past election).

So Republicans want to prevent the next generation from being able to make an educated vote, because that usually means its a vote against them. Stupid voters to put them into office… stupid workforce to let them make even more money off of our backs… etc.

They prefer private schools because they believe Education is a privilege for the rich, and they want the poor masses to be uneducated so they’re more docile.
