So I was rewatching Gravity Falls again and I noticed this part… Has anyone else noticed that Stanford literally locked up a gnome (Probably Shmebulock Sr.) in his lab???
Like, yea, scientists capture and preserve creatures, and Stanford certainly does this as well (Jars of eyebats, specimens of brains in jars, etc), and you can argue that the shapeshifter, while having intelligence, needed to be locked up for safety… but he locked up a gnome? An intelligent, humanlike, and relatively non-dangerous creature. And that cage is so small and cramped too…
Thats not cool, Stanford… not cool at all.
I really liked him, really lowered my opinion of him.
And now Im wondering… did he outright kidnap the gnome from the forest? The scene where he writes the gnome entry, he seemed to be treating the gnome alright, but this really makes me wonder now.
The same gnome is seen in “Tourist Trap” and “Gideon Rises,” he let it out at some point and returned it to it’s home.
The gnome appearing in those two episodes is Shmebulock.
The gnome Stanford met is Shmebulock Senior, Shmebulocks father (or Grandfather possibly).
So, there is the possibility that he never did actually release Shmebulock Sr. With all that went down with the Portal, maybe Shmebulock Sr. died in that cage before Stanley discovered him.

Perhaps what this means is that the symbols in the trailer showing up means the barrier is being activated? Or overpowered/deactivated…
