Its possible that we just wouldn’t have known what that file on the flash drive was even for, if the puzzle hadn’t been completed. Like, there was no clear indicator to use it as a username/password until the pilot link was given at some point and shown to need a username/password.
And the fact that he never got it removed all those years in the portal (especially since we know he encountered a number of more peaceful dimensions where he could have had downtime to deal with it) makes me certain that it’s some sort of crazy alien ink he’ll never be able to get rid of without flaying himself, it’s on for good.
