So my cat Lydia likes paper right. If I open my mail on my bed, she’s right there, walking on it, listening to it crinkle under her toes, and then laying right down. Even if I leave paper on the floor, on carpet or tile or hardwood, she’s there, curling up, standing on it, happy as can be.

And like many of my fellow fanfiction addicts, I don’t read a lot of print books, but I recently borrowed a novel that sounded a m a z i n g and I wanted to get it back to my coworker on Monday. It was going pretty well Saturday afternoon until

Every time I put this book down, whether open or closed or page up or down, she was there. Happy as can be. And so freaking cute that I didn’t want to move her, which meant I was not going to finish it.

So finally, in protest and so I could actually finish this book, I gave her another one

I finished my book (White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi, highly recommend) but I left the decoy out.

She’s been sleeping on it every night. It’s been a week.

This is a wise cat

So proud of my mother for doing her own research after I sent her that meme. A sign she hung in her car window.

Stay woke

Is this true?

Not only is it true, it gets worse. The Susan G Komen For The Cure Foundation has actually successfully sued “competing” charities, because (paraphrasing) their “message or branding was infringing.”

You read that correctly: they took money that people had donated to cure cancer, and hired attorneys with it, to sue ANOTHER group of people trying to find a cure for cancer, who, in turn, had to us their donated money to hire their own legal counsel to defend themselves.

Yeah signal boost because not enough people know about this and seriously FUCK SUSAN G. KOMEN THEY ARE THE ACTUAL WORST

(reblogged in honor of my mother, who died of breast cancer, 11/13/97)

Reblog every time I see it. Roughly once a month.

Also please never forget the pink fracking drill bit

that’s right
fracking
you know, a process using chemicals known to cause cancer that leech into the water supply

It’s that time of year again, please remember Komen is the actual worst

Komen For The Cure is pretty much awful.

My mother died in 1996 from breast cancer. Most cancer charities are scams, in that people throw fancy parties and get rich off them and very little money goes into research or support for patients. Here are some vetted cancer charities that get good scores on Charity Navigator and pay medical expenses or fund research:

Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Cancer Research Institute

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

63 four star rated cancer charities on charity navigator

Signal boosting this

Reblogging from myself because it’s October now

Guys my mom is a 12 year breast cancer survivor and will tell you flat out don’t donate to Susan G Komen. If anything donate to the American Cancer Society

Plus this year Susan G Komen has begun to sue other campaigns who use the word “cure.” I know this because my mom is in many support groups for cancer survivors and regularly search for any news about it

My sorority’s philanthropy is breast cancer awareness. So every year we’d help out with one or two Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure events (normally building the start and finish balloon arches). When we found out the truth about that organization, we were all devastated. Most of our charity money would go to the Susan G. Komen organization rather than a lesser known one (it was easier at the time). And this wasn’t just my chapter of the sorority. It was the entire sorority. So imagine hundreds of thousands of members finding out that this organization to help with the fight against breast cancer was all one big fat lie. That almsot all of the money we raised and forked over to them went straight into their pockets. That we had travelled, woken up at 3-4am, worked and even participated in events for a bullshit organization like this for years and it wasn’t even putting a dent in our philanthropy. A bunch of my friends had relatives and loved ones die to breast cancer and this organization just used it as a get rich quick scheme. That had to be the lowest you can possibly go. Needless to say the entire sorority no longer participated in anything related to Susan G. Komen.
