those posts that are like “if you drink an entire bottle of benadryl at 3 am you can fight your shadow self in a parking lot” always remind me of Ford for some reason

I thought this meant Ford Prefect from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and agreed with it.

This particular example is true, actually. The active ingredient in Benadryl (and many over-the-counter sleep meds) is diphenhydramine, which at high doses causes an incredibly unpleasant high. Nightmarish hallucinations and intense physical discomfort. Every report I’ve ever read has described a hellish trip not worth repeating. Sure, you can fight your shadow self in a parking lot, but your shadow self is going to win.

Ive always been tempted to try tripping on diphenhydramine… I love horror stuff… But Ive read a bunch of accounts of people who have tried it, and its not just vague cartoonish stuff like shadow monsters.

Like, yea, some people get really weird stuff, like shadow monsters, demons, the like…
But some people see really realistic things, like waves of spiders crawling down their walls, beetles breaking out their skin, seeing their(or others) body randomly cut up and bleeding… Things that may be improbable, but could be believable, if you saw it when you weren’t tripping.

If it was all really outlandish unrealistic stuff, I think I could probably handle it, it would be easy for me to remember it wasn’t real… But I couldn’t remind myself I was tripping, if it looked like it could be reality.

So yea. Tempting, because I love horror and seeing weird shadow monsters or demons or whatever would be awesome… and I also want to like, for science… but hell no to visions of any sort of bugs doing anything near me. (Its mostly the accounts of people seeing bugs that freak me out tbh)

(I’m scared to try anything that makes you trip, for this reason… tripping sounds hella interesting tbh, but I heard that people with ‘issues’ can have bad trips… so I would probably only have really bad trips…)
