Okay, so yes, the raws for the (first half of) 219th Night are out. I get it. Everyone’s really excited and there’re tears of joy and celebrations and crying.
You know what there also is? Recirculation and reposting of the actual raw pages. And it’s not just here on tumblr. I’ve seen them on twitter, they’re probably on facebook, and, most importantly, i’ve seen them posted on instagram.
Let me repeat that. People have been posting raw pages on instagram.
Hoshino-sensei has an instagram, as most of you may know by now. She’s seen these. I know she has, because she posted about this.
From her post:
どういうルートなのか分からないですが、発売日前の漫画を投稿しないで欲しいです…。インスタは画像が主体の場なので、余計に…マナーがあると信じたいです。
#インスタ
#きらいに
#なりたくないTranslation:
Although I do not know where the root of this comes from, I do not wish for the manga to be posted before its release date. Because the images are mainly hosted on instagram *, I want to believe that people will show more consideration. (i’m not at all sure on this part if someone can do a better translation, please go ahead)
[In hashtags] I don’t want to come to hate Instagram
I don’t want to come to hate Instagram.
I don’t want to come to hate Instagram.
I don’t want to come to hate Instagram.
Hoshino’s instagram is a personal account. This has been said before, in regards to fans who were extremely persistent in matters regarding when D. Gray Man would come back. The fact is that we’re extremely lucky that she even posts D. Gray Man on there in the first place. Be grateful for that. If this continues she might stop altogether.
Please, please take into consideration the feelings of mangaka before you publicly share information or pages of chapters that were leaked prior to the release date. They want everyone to enjoy their works but for overseas fans to have access to new chapters before a lot of Japanese fans do is really unfair. Especially since most Japanese fans actually buy the magazines, and are the ones who decide whether a series survives or flops.
* it seems as though she doesnt know about the leaks elsewhere besides instagram. please keep it that way and refrain from recirculating pages from the 219th night any further.
I don’t agree with all of this (the stop recirculating pages part on all sites part–I think people should be free to make early edits on tumblr) (just stating this in case people decide to point me out for hypocrisy–not intended to argue with OP, just clarifying because otherwise just reblogging would contradict my earlier words/actions), but please read it nonetheless.
By the way, she said “come to dislike”. She’s still upset, but I think it’s important to deliver her words accurately when possible. Personally, I do not believe Hoshino was wondering on deleting/leaving her instagram.
Telling people not to reprint onto other sites is like teaching abstinence to kids in terms of effectiveness, in my opinion. The only long-term solution for this problem is being stricter with employees of places that sell/print/etc the magazines, since that’s where the leaks usually originate from, I think. Even then, it’d never be 100% leak-proof. And China will always keep getting their scans early, illegally.
The original big three shounen jump, Tokyo Ghoul, etc, any series that’s really popular will run into this problem as an inevitability.Thing is, people on Instagram probably didn’t think that Hoshino would see it. They probably thought she’d be too busy to. For the same reasons that people always post Tokyo Ghoul spoilers even though Ishida is on tumblr (I think we would all agree that expecting people not to post TG spoilers on tumblr is rather ridiculous, given its popularity…)
Nonetheless, what OP has written is important to think about.
I doubt this is the first leak (far from it), and I doubt it’ll be the last: but next time, it’s probably best to watermark the images with something that says not to put on instagram or something. That wouldn’t be foolproof, but…
