They made it off the train with time to spare and headed on the road leading to the Order. The walk back wasn’t terribly long, but the quiet that stretched between Lavi and Allen was starting to get to the redhead. He didn’t know what to say as they traveled along the dirt road. The only thing he wanted to talk about was what had just occurred in the train compartment, but discussing the intricacies of their new romantic entanglement wasn’t something Lavi wanted to chat about on the tail end of their trip. No, they needed to find somewhere quiet and discuss what was going to happen next at length.
Lavi glanced at Allen whenever he thought the other Exorcist wasn’t looking. He wasn’t sure what would happen now. Everything was so complicated, especially with his title as a future bookman. This wasn’t something he should be messing with in the first place. Emotions had no place in a Bookman’s life. But, there was no taking it back now. He would just have to deal with everything as it happened.
Allen felt that the silence as they walked was a bit awkward, but the idea of forcing even a normal conversation would make it worse. He glanced at Lavi a few times, and once even thought he caught Lavi’s eyes darting away from him, until they reached the Order.
“So… Want to report to Komui first and get that out of the way?” Allen asked, hoping no one else noticed the odd tension around the two. Or if they did, they would assume that they just had a petty fight during their mission.
